ABOUT ME

Prior to my current position, in 2024, I conducted my research as an independent researcher in Delft while accompanying my partner, who had taken up a new role in the N*therlands. During this period, my work concentrated on the theoretical analysis of droplet train impingement on heated surfaces. Alongside this, I also supervised and mentored both BSc and MSc students. Between 2022 and 2024, I held a postdoctoral researcher position at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where I worked on multiphase mixture modeling of two-phase R-744 ejectors, as well as the system-level design of R-744 heat pumps for residential applications.

I earned my PhD in 2019 from the Energy Research Institute (ERIAN) and the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. My PhD research focused on the cryogenic energy utilization of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during the regasification process, targeting power generation and cogeneration at small-scale capacities (30 kW). From 2019 to 2022, I was involved in various research projects, including single droplet impingement, droplet train impingement, two-phase and single-phase immersion cooling for data centers, air-cooled data center systems, metal 3D-printed heat exchangers for both low-temperature sources (e.g., battery thermal management) and high-temperature sources (plastic injection molding), as well as fluid flow optimization in green wall (vertical garden) systems.

Before beginning my PhD, I obtained both my B.Sc. (2012) and M.Sc. (2014) degrees from the Heat and Process Division of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul. For my B.Sc. thesis — part of a TUBITAK-funded project — I developed an engineering optimization algorithm for a novel radiant heating and cooling wall and ceiling panel system, which was proposed as an alternative heat pump-based heating and cooling solution for residential buildings in Mediterranean and Caucasus climate regions. This work involved extensive computational simulations of radiative and convective heat and fluid flow behaviors for the proposed panel designs. During my M.Sc. studies, I continued working within the same field, focusing on residential heat pump systems. As part of a SAN-TEZ project supported by the Turkish Ministry of Science and Industry, I carried out both experimental and computational studies on a newly proposed ground heat exchange concept, which aimed to create a continuous heat exchange medium at the interface between building foundations (concrete) and soil. Within this context, I investigated the thermal performance characteristics of foundation materials under varying heat flux conditions.

I am, fortunately, a cat person — and, unfortunately, a lifelong Trabzonspor fan, something I simply can’t give up despite the endless heartbreak it brings. I’m also an amateur runner, usually sticking to 5 km, 10 km, and half-marathon distances. Beyond that, I’m a dedicated reader of Existentialism, Stoicism, Cartesianism, and Rationalism, and I’ve been writing my own modest essays and reflections on these subjects, often blending them with daily observations and topic-driven thoughts.

During my stay in the Netherlands in 2024, I began conducting observations and taking detailed notes on issues related to discrimination and Orientalism. Upon completing this work, I intend to publish my essays as an open-access source document. One of the key areas of focus has been understanding the behavior patterns of individuals who, by internalizing oppression and identifying with the social hierarchy, develop a false sense of superiority and loyalty toward those they perceive as above them.
